The tour

Your day starts with pickup at your accommodation or other location of your choice. First a brief introduction with your driver guide who learns about your preference and assists you making the choice between the museum and attractions included in the tour price. You will be exploring the city sights by car and by foot at select stops.

This is a whistle-stop tour where you will explore famous landmarks and attractions within Reykjavik. Your guide will tell you stories and facts about Iceland’s culture, history and way of life throughout the centuries since the viking settlement in 874. Get answers to the questions you would have never known to ask.

  • Why did Icelandic women, up until the 1930’s, walk 2 miles pushing their dirty clothes in a wheelbarrow?
  • Why was beer illegal in Iceland until March 1st 1989 while hard liquor was legal?
  • What are the Cod wars, why were they called that and who did we fight?

You will be visiting the iconic Hallgrims church. There we will ascend up the 74,5 meter tall bell tower to enjoy amazing views over the colourful city center. You will drive through the narrow streets of the center in between multi-colored houses, often old wooden houses shielded with corrugated iron. We make a photo stop at Höfði, where Reagan and Gorbatsjov ended the cold war, and at the Sun Voyager, with Esja mountain ridge in the background. We drive by the city hall on the city pond, Althing parliament house and we can make an optional stop at the famous hot dog stand (try one pulsa with everything like the locals). We will stop by several viewpoints before making our way to the east side of town where you can find a waterfall in a salmon fishing river that flows within the city.

You will get a choice of a stop at one of two pre-selected history museums – admission included.

Árbæjarsafn outdoor museum is home to old houses from Reykjavik that have been moved for preservation. You can enter the houses and folk exhibitions have been set up in them to give you a sense of life in Iceland through the years. Árbæjarsafn even includes an old turf house farm which was a popular construction during the viking era. All staff members at Árbæjarsafn are dressed up in traditional Icelandic clothing from different eras and they run various exhibitions throughout the museum. Árbæjarsafn is a great place to experience the old ways of Iceland.

The Icelandic Maritime museum tells the story of Iceland’s most important trade throughout the centuries, fisheries. Iceland has some of the best fishing grounds in the world and the Icelandic fishing industry is one of the most advanced you can find in the world. This all started centuries ago by seafarers rowing the fjords in all types of weather. The sea takes its toll and Iceland has lost many good individuals throughout the centuries. An optional add-on at the museum is a visit to Odin, the coast guard ship used to fight the UK in the Cod Wars. The maritime museum is an excellent place to explore a mix of culture and trade.

You will get a choice of a stop at one of two pre-selected attractions – admission included

Perlan Wonders of Iceland is a glass dome building situated on top of six district heating tanks. One of the tanks has been emptied out for a man-made ice cave. Perlan has multiple nature exhibitions and multimedia shows teaching you about glaciers, volcanoes, earthquakes, Icelandic water, birdlife in Iceland and an Aurora Borealis / Northern lights planetarium.

Flyover Iceland is the ultimate Icelandic flying experience. You will hang suspended, feet dangling, before a 20-metre spherical screen while our film whisks you away on an exhilarating journey across Iceland. Special effects, including wind, mist and scents, combine with the ride’s motion to create an unforgettable experience.
